Living Arrows: Week Six

This week’s Living Arrows is all about park life. No, I’m not reminiscing about Blur (although that song is incredibly catchy… you’re welcome!), this weekend we went to the park!

It feels like since I’ve returned to work, we’ve been constantly running around doing things. The days I’m at work are long and the time that we have together feels incredibly short. Even more so for Dave. So this weekend, we decided to cancel all plans and just have a bit of good, old fashioned family time.

coffee break with my babySaturday morning, Dave had a haircut so rather than let him go by himself we decided to head into town as well. With Dave dropped off for a trim it was time for me and the boy to have a little coffee date – not something we’ve ever really done just us two! Clutching our drinks and avoiding the cakes, we found a table in the window and just relaxed. I plied him with dried mango (chewy enough to guarantee a happy teething baby), drank my drink in peace and caught up with some of the ever-mounting pile of paperwork. Bliss! Dave joined us shortly after and we caught up on life – you know, all the little bits that we never REALLY get time to talk about at home.

That afternoon, we decided to combine a trip to Dave’s nan with our first proper attempt at going to the park. There’s a place right next to her house that has one of those baby swings; the one where your baby sits facing you and you swing together? Suffice to say, his face was a picture. I’m not sure if it was terror, delight or just sheer ‘what the hell is happening’ but either way, it was an experience! We played on the swings, took him on the roundabout, even gave him a couple of (accompanied) goes on the slide before heading home with an exhausted baby and even more exhausted parents!

Yesterday was spent having a lazy morning in bed before going swimming in the afternoon. We’ve been swimming since Monkey was a tiny baby but recently he’s become a little scared of it and very clingy. Figuring that once a week wasn’t probably enough, we decided to make it a family outing and took him to a local pool where, incredibly, it was deserted. We splashed and dunked for nearly an hour in total with plenty of cuddles and even managed a grin or two by the end of it. It’s important to both Dave and I that he learns to swim, especially as we live near the sea, so we’re determined to get him to enjoy himself!
