Family-Friendly Things that You Can Do in Welshpool

If you want to have a fun and happy day out with the family then it helps to make sure that you have a travel itinerary full of things to do. If you don’t then you may find that you end up not doing everything you want to do and that you also go hours on end without any clear direction. Powysland Museum

This location is squeezed into a small canal-side building. This is a fantastic little museum because it is full of artefacts and other related customs. You’ll soon find that this building covers everything from local railway history to farming and even fashion too.  If you were to make your way upstairs, then you’ll soon come across the social history gallery and this will give you some fascinating insights into the centuries that have gone by. You will be able to see kitchen equipment from the 1950’s and you will also see a Roman-style recipe that tells you how to cook a stuffed dormouse. If you want something a little different to do, then this is certainly something that you should try and explore for yourself.

Welshpool & Llanfair Railway

Between the months of April and October, you will find that it’s possible for you to ride the Welshpool & Llanfair Railway. It goes from the Raven Square to the Llanfair Caereinion. It’s 16 miles in total and it takes around 45 minutes each way. If you want to have the finest retro adventure, then you can book an experience course. When you do, you will be able to take the controls of the train and then drive yourself. This is great if you want to have an experience that is completely unlike any other and it can provide you with a lot of fun and excitement too. Montgomery Canal

The canal runs for a total of 33 miles and it brings wildlife into the centre of Welshpool. It’s a Site of Scientific Interest and when you pay it a visit, you will soon see that aquatic plants thrive and that there are tons of otters as well. As if that wasn’t enough, you will soon find that there are also kingfishers, water voles and more. There are coded way markers and so many places for you to explore.

Glansevern Hall Gardens

Glansevern Hall Gardens are over 25 acres and they are full of interest and colour. If you want a location that is packed full of wildlife, then this is certainly the place that you need to visit. If you feel as though you are in a romantic mood, then you can walk the Wisteria route. This is very calm and tranquil, not to mention that you can also watch birds from the riverbank if you want.

Welshpool Golf Club

The Welshpool Golf Club has panoramic views of the borderlands and there are a total of 18 holes too. There’s a magnificent spot where you can work on your swing and if you go during a clear day then you will soon find that you can see Snowdonia. Visitors are more than welcome, and you don’t need to be a member in order to take a tour. The course is open all-year-round too, so if you want to have the best experience then you don’t have to worry about timing your vacation properly.

Glyndŵr’s Way

Glyndŵr’s Way is over 135 miles long and it’s a National Trail too. It loops through the countryside and it actually starts from Knighton’s Town Clock and it goes to Machynlleth. It then turns northeast and ends at Welshpool. A lot of people walk this route, but it is possible for you to cycle if you want.

The Andrew Logan Museum

This museum is actually the only museum in the whole of Europe that is dedicated to a living artist. The museum is an incredibly vibrant space that showcases a lot of Andrew’s work. The museum has watercolours, sculptures, mirrored portraits and more. Of course. If you have never even thought about going to this museum before then you should certainly give it a go.

Nature Reserves

Llyn Coed y Dinas is a brilliant home for all different kinds of wildlife. Entry is free to the museum and the site is accessible for wheelchair users too. You can even go to the very spacious bird hide too. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are also more than welcome on the site as well. The Severn Farm Pond Nature Reserve has boardwalks where you can easily spot creatures such as newts, frogs, toads and more. There’s also a huge range of birds as well so if you have a keen interest in birdwatching then you will certainly love this location. You can take the kids with you and walk some of the trails if the weather is good enough!

Market Towns

Welshpool is very close to a huge range of market towns. Monday is known for being market day but there are a huge range of pubs, restaurants and takeaways too. There is also Andy’s Fish Bar which has won plenty of awards as well. Some of the other market towns are well worth visiting. If you are able to go to the ruins then you will be able to get the best view, and this is something that a lot of tourists do.

Lake Vyrnwy

This area has plenty for outdoor enthusiasts to do. You can go kayaking, canoeing, cycling or even sailing if you want. If you’re not too keen on any of the above sports, then you can go clay pigeon shooting and quad biking as well if you want. When you do, you will be able to have the best time as well.
