Keep Warm This Winter, With Protest | AD

Prior to having a family, we’d head to the mountains every winter for weeks of hitting the slopes. This year we were hoping for it to be our first year of taking the kids with us, having agreed that they were finally at an age where they’d get some enjoyment out of it. Like so many people, our holiday plans have been firmly put on hold, partly thanks to this pandemic we find ourselves and partly because we’re expecting another pair of tiny feet toward the end of the winter season. That aside, we understand the demands and needs of snow wear and the balance of wanting to look good whilst keeping you warm, dry and visible out on the slopes. So when we had the opportunity to work with Protest, a Dutch sportswear company started by snowboarders, we jumped at the chance. We might not be able to hit the slopes this year but if their winter range can cope with snow, they can certainly handle a little UK rain!

Oh and spoiler alert: we’ve got a discount code to offer you too!

Who Are Protest?

Protest describe themselves as a ‘design-led sportswear company’ hailing from Holland. Founded in 1993 by a small group of snowboarders, they aim to design fashionable and functional sportswear at an affordable price. Despite their roots being from snowboarding, Protest don’t just create clothing for the winter slopes, they aim to support all core riders; those on the slopes or on the waves. Which is why you’ll find a comprehensive range of swim and surf wear on their site also, alongside their streetwear and their snow wear. Not only that but they offer these in adult and child ranges, meaning the entire family don’t have to compromise on style or functionality, wherever they are.

Introducing Protest Snow Wear 2020…

First up, let’s talk about ski jackets. If you ask me, finding the right jacket is the most important winter wear decision. A good ski jacket will do all of the things I said, on and off the slopes… that’s right, snow wear doesn’t have to be packed away for the rest of the year! Whilst they’re primarily designed for usage on the slopes, their functionality means that they’re great for tackling the cold and damp winter months here in the UK as well. Thankfully, Protest offer a comprehensive range of ski jackets for women to suit different tastes and shapes, from a classic design, through to soft shell jackets that look more like hoodies! Personal favourites include this puffer anorak style that comes in a range of colours, their neon yellow Chica style jacket that rocks a fisherman jacket vibe (but a million times more trendy) and basically all of their retro range… well, if you can’t have a little fun with your snow wear, where can you?!

Pair your ski jacket with one of Protest’s range of women’s ski trousers for maximum impact. We’re all about the leopard print styling at the moment but if you’re looking for something that may be a little less trend dependent, they’ve a great range of block colours, from a standard black through purple, green, orange, pink and more. For the more daring out there, there’s the leopard print, or a bold vertical stripe that promises to make you stand out from the crowd, in the best type of way. If you’re aiming to go for a more muted jacket design to wear on and off the slopes, a pair of statement ski trousers would be a perfect pairing for maximum slope style points.

As I mentioned earlier, it’s not just females that Protest cater for, and their menswear for this year’s snow season offers just as much choice and style. To the point that some of their men’s ski jackets I’d be tempted to buy for my husband and promptly steal for myself! Much like their womenswear ranges, there’s a real selection available encompassing those that fall under a more traditional ‘ski jacket’ style through to the softshell hooded jacket depending on what you’re looking for. Personal favourites include this Optic Puffer style jacket and the plain black Mount 20 Puffer both of which could certainly transition between on and off slope life.

Men have the same comprehensive range of ski trousers available to them as the women, allowing you to mix and match to create a look that’s totally yours. Whilst you’re there, it’s worth checking out the range of men’s fleeces which sit perfectly under the ski jacket or can be worn alone. As any cold weather fan will tell you, it’s all about the layers, allowing you to add and remove as required in order to keep your body at it’s optimum temperature depending on the conditions. We can definitely see these becoming firm favourites at home as well, the perfect companion on those crisp winter mornings!
