Managing Your Little Ones While They’re Off School

The pressure is on for many people around the world right now. At the turn of 2020, none of us could have imagined how the year would turn and we’re living through some pretty notable times. With countries around the world going into lockdown situations, many of us are finding our lives drastically changing. For parents, these changes can make you worry about whether you’re doing all you can for your little ones. While more and more children begin to take time off school and spend more time in the home, you’re going to have to work hard to keep up with their education and keep them occupied. Here are a few tips and tricks that can help you to achieve this as best possible!

Make Education as Fun as Possible

You’re going to want to make sure your child still has some sort of educational factor to their day. They’re missing out on lessons and, while they won’t be dropping behind because none of their classmates will be having lessons either, you can still help to teach them from the comfort of your own home. The best activities will depend entirely on your child’s age and which age group they fall into. But some good ideas to get the ball rolling can include activity books, talking to them about historical events, reading up on the planets and solar systems with them, encouraging them to read age appropriate stories and pieces of non-fiction and talking to them about different artists, writers or musicians. If your child is int languages, Rosetta Stone are offering free language learning for all children over the next three months!

Keep Them Occupied

Of course, you shouldn’t overdo it with the schooling while your little ones are taking time away from their school. They still need to have fun and games! If anything, this is going to be a time where they’re particularly prone to boredom – and for most children, boredom can often establish itself as forms of “bad behaviour”. Content and occupied kids tend to be happy and relatively well behaved kids. So, make sure they have plenty to look forward to each day. Sure, you can’t take them out to the park. Sure, they’re not going to be going on bike rides around the block with their friends. But there are so many at home activities that can provide high levels of entertainment. Consider a board game. Consider knowledge-based quizzes, such as disney trivia questions. Watch a film. Do some arts and crafts. Read books together.

Use the Time to Bond

Sure, there are a number of negatives that come with the current world situation. But try to make the best of this time by using it to bond with your children. Usually we’re tied up with work and other responsibilities. This could be a great opportunity to get to know your child better and build strong bridges.

These are just a few suggestions. Only you will know what’s best for your little ones as individuals. Keep your chin up and we’ll all get through this tough time together!
