Hobbies You And Your Little Ones Can Do Together

Are you looking for a hobby that you can do with your kids? It might seem as though it’s impossible currently, we can assure you that it isn’t. There are so many options that you can consider, and it really is just a case of looking into all of the options, thinking about what both of you would enjoy and then going from there. It’s true that there are going to be times where you try out hobbies only to find that it’s not actually as fun as you thought, but that’s okay because you can then just move on to something else.

If you’re stuck for ideas, and you would like to get some inspiration, then it’s a good thing that you’ve come across this article. We’re going to be exploring a whole range of fun options for you and your little ones today, so keep reading if you are interested in learning about what they are.

Baking

Have you considered baking before? If you don’t like cooking, you might automatically think that you’re not a fan of baking but that’s not actually the case. Baking and cooking are different, and it’s common for people to like one and not like the other.

A great thing about baking is that you get to make yummy treats that you can share with your entire family, taking pride in the fact that you and your child made them. It takes time of course to master baking just like everything else, but if you persevere then you will get there. You will also find that it’s a fantastic skill for your child to learn, as it’s something that they can take into adulthood with them.

Games

Some people like to try and keep their kids away from certain types of games, and that is absolutely okay. It’s up to you what you do and do not allow your child to do, but the important thing is that you realize not all games are bad. In fact, most of them are actually just a lot of fun for you and your kids to play together. It might be the case that you don’t want them near video games, and that’s okay they don’t have to be, they are not the only type of game available.

You can play board games like Monopoly which has so many variations these days so you’re sure to find a theme you all enjoy. Or, you might decide that you want to play word games with them such as wordle, or even scrabble to help them expand their vocabulary. There are so many options, and it’s something that you can enjoy doing together when you have time.

Walking

Another great idea for a family hobby could be walking or hiking. There are so many places just waiting for you to explore, and you never know they could be right on your doorstep. If your children are too young to walk then you could push them in their buggy or stick them in a child backpack. That way they can enjoy the sights and scenery as much as you do. There may be local country parks with reservoirs or lakes filled with wildlife, making this a wonderful opportunity to teach your children about nature.

Swimming

While you may not think of this one as a hobby, it certainly can be one. If you have a local pool that you all enjoy then you could find yourself down there multiple times a week. If your children aren’t able to swim yet then you could get them swimming lessons or you could find the joy in teaching them yourself. It can be a wonderful bonding experience watching your child learn to swim, knowing you taught them everything they know. However, if you want them to learn properly so they can save their life and others one day, it can be better to pay for lessons. Make sure you stick around and watch them, children love it when parents show they are proud.

Crafts

Do you often find yourself keeping all things craft related, this could objects like cereal boxes or egg boxes? These are always handy for when you have a craft day, you can make anything and everything you can dream of. Children love to create and show off their finished items, sometimes they sneakily end up in the bin but not while your children are watching.

Make sure you have a craft box that comes out to play whenever you want to get messy, ensure everyone has what they need and you know what you are going to create. Families could make something all together or start individual projects.

Painting

Finally, think about painting and all the age groups that can enjoy this activity together. Little ones start painting as soon as they can dip their fingers in it, this is known as mark making and can be such a fun activity. As they progress they will learn to hold a paintbrush and their joy for painting grows from there. You could take family painting classes where you will paint anything and everything, usually still life like fruits or other objects. However, if your children are old enough and skilled enough then you could go to a portrait class and paint an actual person. They will be able to show their talents capturing all the curves and lighting as it hits a real person in the studio.

Don’t forget painting is a hobby and like with any hobby you can stop and start it. If your child needs a break from this particular hobby, don’t judge them or start a fight with them. They are just trying to find themself.

Hopefully this article gave you some ideas and inspiration on what you and your little ones can do together. Hobbies don’t just have to be enjoyed on your own, you can share your time and enjoyment with other people around you. Some hobbies won’t be suitable for all audiences, such as video games but you as a parent can be the best judge of this. Make sure that your little ones enjoy it as much as you do, otherwise you could be met with tantrums and shouting.
