Childhood. It goes by in a flash doesn’t it? One minute they’re a tiny bundle of newness and the next minute they’re off exploring the world leaving you trailing behind. I started Devon Mama as a way to keep close some of the memories of our first adventures as a family of three, that’s why taking part in this series appeals to me so very much.
“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”
Living Arrows is the brainchild of Donna at What the Redhead Said. Each week, you post one image from the week capturing your memory of it in a moment in time and sharing it with the world. For someone like me, it’s the perfect reminder to stop, capture and enjoy it for a moment before the world rushes on past. I’m actually a week late starting but the control freak in me wants to make sure there are 52 memories, so just in case you were worried, here’s week one.
Living Arrows: Week One
This week’s photo is from our trip away at New Year’s. We took the plunge and booked a long weekend away with friends, something that made me incredibly nervous considering none of them have children. I needn’t have worried. Throughout the entire time, our boy was played with, considered and cared for. We spent the days mooching around the farm, wandering down the waterfront and taking part in games whilst basking next to the log burner. It marked the beginning of a new year for us and a new phase as I return to work and ‘real life’ starts to kick back in.
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve noticed a huge change in our littlest family member. His personality is shining through and he’s a happy, settled and confident baby. He loves spending time with people, especially his Dad and they’re often seen plodding around the countryside chattering to each other. This photo just sums up their adventures so well… and our parenting style!

Gorgeous – love that he’s chewing on a stick!
I think he thinks he’s a dog!
Aww what a lovely way to capture the moments ☺
It’s a great idea isn’t it? Can’t wait to finally catch up this week!
Aww I bet that was a lovely trip! I love that snowsuit, so cosy and a gorgeous colour xx
It was great – just the start to the year we needed!!
Oh this is such a gorgeous photograph – love it! Can’t wait to see your photos every week x
Thank you!! x
That is an absolutely beautiful picture. I love that he is eating stick lol, but it is the look of wonder in his eyes at whatever had caught his interest up there, that I really notice the most about this photo. He is so engaged with the world around him 🙂 Looks like a gorgeous spot for walking too! Katie xx
Thank you!! I love this photo of the two of them, my husband had let him play with the stick and was trying to bat it out of his hand when I snapped the pic! He’s so nosey these days, wants to see and understand everything that’s going on! Thanks for reading x
Yay for long weekends away! Glad it wasn’t as bad as you had thought it would be! 🙂

Ha, lovely picture – love that he’s chewing on a stick! Country boy. Glad you had a nice time away, I’m a little dubious around non parents too!
That’s ma boy… loves his stick. I think he thinks he’s a dog actually, should probably be worried about the cleanliness!
What a cutie, we must cherish and capture these moments, as like you said they whizz by!

That’s why I love this idea, I’m so rubbish at just leaving photos on my phone. I want a way to be able to look back at my favourites from each week!
