Living Arrows. Durdle Door, learning to stand and icecream

Living Arrows: Week Ten

It terrifies me that we’re nearly a fifth of the way through the year – when did THAT happen?! In fact I’ve got this Living Arrows project for making me acutely aware of how flippin’ fast the year is passing. Gulp. This week we’ve discovered the art of standing unassisted, I think he’s probably been doing it for longer but it took until now for both of us to realise what was happening. The look on his face is just brilliant when he realises that he’s let go and lasts for the split second before he drops onto the floor… thank god for a nappy cushion to soften the blow! The majority of the time now he’s perched precariously instead.

Along with that, we’ve finally started making real progress with his food intake. We’ve been doing a mix of baby led and traditional weaning and whilst he’ll eat, it’s nothing huge. This week everything has changed, our little bird has become a gannet! Everything and anything is now being tried, usually with an accompanying grimace, the best of which has to have been his first attempt at ice-cream. We’d been over to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove for the day to clear our heads and after a lot of cliff climbing, we rewarded ourselves with a well-deserved treat. Previously we’d have stopped him from trying some but we’re trying to take a more relaxed approach – he LOVED it. And hated it. In equal measure.

The ice cream photo is the most incredible photo that ever has existed and will exist for millennia to come ???? Definitely one for the newspaper on his 18tg birthday (if that will still be a thing?!)

It’s incredible he is able to stand unassisted. Where are our tiny babies going? Dex hasn’t been brace enough to let go yet and I hope not for a while yet. We have enough bruises here thank you very much ????

Isn’t it just?! I LOVE it, even if it does display wonderfully my manic baby hair growth!! I know, it’s literally for a few seconds at a time but it’s giving us this glimpse of him actually walking like a proper human being… not a baby!!! I can’t cope!

Mummy started Monkey with mint choc chip so that he doesn’t go back and discover how good vanilla and chocolate ice cream are, I have you sussed, Dev! x

Daddy gave him strawberry moments later!! Why would I start him with anything other than perfection!?

Haha he doesn’t look too impressed with the ice cream. I am sure that will change very quickly once he is older. 🙂 #livingarrows

I think so too! He kept going back for more though so I think he liked the taste but not the temperature!! Thanks for popping by.

Oh my goodness – I love that picture with the ice cream! Great moment to capture. We have the same approach though, everything in moderation. #livingarrows

I can’t take ANY credit for the photo, I hadn’t even realised until afterward! We’re trying to be a bit looser with things, hopefully it helps his eating continue to come on in leaps and bounds!

Awww bless him, my son pulls the exact same face when he has ice cream! xx

    • DevonMamaOnline 6th March 2017 at 7:23 pm

It’s so funny isn’t it?! He looks terrified but back in he’d go!

We are in the same stage with our 10 month old, I tried and failed at baby led weaning, so now i just do whatever makes my life easier which is.. feed him what he likes and for now because of all the teeth appearing is only pureed food ugh! Love the ice-cream pic, too cute!

    • DevonMamaOnline 8th March 2017 at 7:40 am

It’s like two steps forward, one back all the time!! We’re getting there with a combo, thankfully it’s more baby led which is good because it means he can just get on with it but pouches are so easy!!

Oh he is too cute! I have a similar ice cream photo – I think he loved the taste but wasn’t keen on the coldness….

Bless him! I wish Lucas would pull that face at ice cream. Kid eats it like it’s going out of fashion aha!

What a little cutie and adorable is he, especially with that ice cream. And well done to him for finding his little feet.

  • Donna 9th March 2017 at 10:03 pm

I’m so glad the eating has turned a corner and yay for standing! I remember that look on the babies’ faces when they realised they weren’t holding on and then *plonk* on the floor! x
