7 Things Every Functional Bedroom Needs

The bedroom is your personal haven where you can escape and let it all go, so whether you just use it for sleeping or you spend more time in the space relaxing, getting ready for a big night out, or whatever it may be, you need your bedroom to be functional, so you can keep it calm, right? That being the case, here are a few things every functional bedroom should, ideally, have:

1. The Right Bed

This one’s a no-brainer. The heart of every bedroom is the bed. But not just any bed – one that actually lets you sleep like a log. Think supportive mattress, a headboard that makes reading in bed a joy, and enough pillows to build a fort if you so choose. Remember, the quality of your sleep affects everything else in your life, so this isn’t the place to skimp!

2. Adequate Storage

Unless you’ve mastered the art of living with absolutely nothing (in which case, teach us your ways), you’re going to need storage. Under-bed storage boxes, a spacious wardrobe, and maybe some floating shelves will keep your clutter under control and your bedroom looking serene. Say goodbye to clothes chairs (you know, that chair covered in clothes that’s never actually available for sitting).

3. A Dressing Table

No, it’s not just a relic from old Hollywood movies. A dressing table (Sapphire Furniture has some stunning ones) or a vanity, provides a dedicated spot for getting ready. It’s where you can keep all your potions, lotions, and whatever gear you need to face the world. Plus, it gives you another reason to sit down and admire your glorious self in the mirror. Just make sure it’s equipped with good lighting; nobody wants to step out looking like a panda (unless it’s Halloween, maybe).

4. Proper Lighting

Speaking of lighting, your bedroom needs more than just a harsh overhead light. Layered lighting is key. A combination of ambient lighting for a soft glow, task lighting for reading or getting dressed, and accent lighting to highlight your favourite art pieces will make your bedroom both functional and inviting. And yes, fairy lights count – this isn’t just for teenagers’ rooms anymore!

5. A Cozy Reading Nook

Even if you’re not a big reader, having a cozy corner to sit and unwind can be a game-changer for your bedroom’s functionality. A comfy chair, a good lamp, and a small table to rest your tea (or wine – we don’t judge) can make this nook your go-to spot for some me-time

6. Tech Control Station

In the digital age, having a spot to charge all your gadgets is essential. A bedside table with built-in charging ports can keep your tech handy but organized, and help avoid cables sprawled across the floor. Just try to keep screens out of bed – they’re sleep snatchers!

7. A Touch of Green

A plant or two won’t just make your bedroom look prettier; they might improve your air quality and your mood. Choose low-maintenance greens that thrive indoors, and enjoy a bit of nature’s calm right in your sleeping space.

A functional bedroom should be more than just a place to crash. It should be a sanctuary, a station, and a style statement all rolled into one. And having all of the above in there will make sure it is exactly that.
