There are many things for babies that need to be provided for the first days and months of a baby’s life. First, shopping for a baby can often be stressful for parents. You can get lost in the long aisles with full shelves on both sides. Wherever you turn your head, there are things you think you need, but essentially don’t. In order to make this task easier, we have prepared a complete list of equipment, which contains all the necessary things for the baby that you must have before its arrival in the world. Read on to find out what baby essentials you need.
Crib
The best solution is a wooden crib with a side that can be raised and lowered. Some other useful features are available, such as a linen drawer and castors. A little reminder, the mattresses do not come with the crib, so you will have to buy them separately. It is important that the mattress is intended exclusively for babies because mattresses that are too soft can pose a suffocation hazard. If you decide on a used crib, make sure that at least the mattress is new, for the reasons mentioned above, as well as for hygienic reasons. Other things to look for while buying the crib are:
- Cotton sheet and waterproof sheet for the crib – you will need 2-3 pieces each. An impermeable sheet is placed under the cotton sheet.
- Blanket for the baby – a thick towel or a thin cotton blanket is enough.
- For summer, when it’s warm, terry cloth will come in handy.
As seen, picking up a crib with a few extra drawers will make it more practical as you’ll need storage space for all of the above-mentioned.
Baby strollers
There is a large selection of strollers from various manufacturers, with numerous options and additional equipment, which will ultimately determine the price. One very important feature is when the stroller follows the child’s growth, i.e. when folding models are available from which the seat can be removed and converted into a car seat, or used as a carrier. When choosing a stroller, the most important things to pay attention to are that it is light, sturdy, comfortable for the baby, and that the backrest can be adjusted in several positions. All other features, such as the way of folding and unfolding, the way of rotating the dots, etc., are peripheral and left to you to choose.
Also, an item you’ll need to carry around is a diaper bag with additional pockets for bottles, tissues, and other needed items like your car keys, money, and ID. Rest assured, a diaper bag is essential whether the stroller has space or not, as you’ll carry with you a dozen little things that can easily get lost. The newer diaper bags come in the form of a backpack, which allows you more movability and comfort while pushing the stroller, among many other things. Believe us, without a diaper bag, you’ll feel completely unprepared, as you’ll never know when you’ll need something from it.
Dresser for changing
It’s a useful accessory in which you can place diapers and everything you need when changing your baby. We advise you to be with the baby during the change, while the baby is on the dresser. In order to additionally secure the baby during swaddling, we recommend using swaddling mats made of safe non-slip materials with raised edges to prevent the baby from turning. They are easy to clean and easy to maintain. And as you could imagine, organizing your items according to drawers is essential as it will save you a lot of time.
Bathing items
In addition to clothes and things for changing the baby, it is necessary to provide things for bathing and certain cosmetic products from the pharmacy, which will serve you in the daily hygiene of your child. The most important of them are:
- Bathtub and bathtub stand – A bathtub stand is not necessary, but it is extremely practical. This accessory allows you to bathe your baby in a standing position as well as change the room and the place where you bathe.
- Watering jug – Used to make bathing the baby easier.
- Water thermometer – Used to measure the temperature of the bath water.
- Bath and shampoo, or a product that serves both purposes. When choosing cosmetics for babies, choose products with natural ingredients that are proven to be beneficial for the baby’s delicate skin. These are primarily products without parabens, silicones, perfumes, and sulfates.
- Hooded towel
- Wet wipes
- Baby body oil.
So, your house will turn into a store full of items you never knew existed prior to becoming a parent. And although it seems like a lot, the joy of parenthood outweighs all the trouble you go through.
