When it comes to kitchen gadgets, I’m a bit of a sucker. Most of them get used for the first week and then packed away into a far cupboard, never to be seen again. There are only a select few that make it past that first hurdle, so you know they’ve got to be pretty special. Recently, we were given the opportunity to test out the VonShef 4 in 1 Blender. With all the attachments to blend, juice and grind to my hearts content, there was one function I truly couldn’t wait to test out; the smoothie maker.
Recipe: Berry & Banana Smoothie
You will need:
- A handful of blueberries
- A handful of strawberries
- A banana
- A pot of strawberry yoghurt (approximately 200ml)
- 150ml of milk
- Peel the banana and break into smaller chunks
- De-hull the strawberries
- Add the blueberries, banana, strawberries and yoghurt to the blender
- Blend until smooth (ish!)
- Add milk in small amounts, blending in between, until you reach your desired consistency.
The great thing with smoothies is they can be as flexible as you want – got some other fruits to use up? pop them in! We’ve found getting the toddler to drink cows milk a bit of a nightmare; whilst he loves yoghurt, he point blank refuses to touch milk. For us, this is a quick way to get more calcium into his diet, disguised nicely behind the taste of berries and the texture of yoghurt!
VonShef 4 in 1 Blender
The 4 in 1 blender is exactly as you’d imagine; a sleek, well planned kitchen gadget with a box full of different attachments in order to allow you to make the most of its multi-functionality. Simple to set up and get started, the VonShef 4 in 1 blender comes with clear instructions that show you how to use it for each function; grinding, blending, smoothie making and juicing.
Inside the box is a 1.5L blender with 1L capacity, 1 smoothie maker jug, two 500ml Mugs, grinding attachment and juicing attachment. The model is based around a sleek power unit which you then attach your cutting head of choice to as well as your ‘mug’ or ‘jug’ of choice depending on what you’re doing. There’s a large jug for blending and smoothie making, all the way down to a small one that you’d use for grinding. With additional caps included, it means you can easily transition from blending to sealing it in a travel style cup to take to work – perfect for days when you’re in a rush!
For us, the main functionality is as a blender and smoothie maker given that it allows us to make soups during the winter, shakes and smoothies in the summer and plenty of other things in between. We’re yet to try the grinding attachment, although I have my eye on it for making a pesto in the next few weeks – luckily, there’s a recipe included in the instruction manual. As for the juicer function; it’s something that I’ve wanted for a while but couldn’t justify the outlay given that we’d only use it occasionally. There are only so many gadgets that our house has space for! That’s why this is pretty perfect for us, given that the juicing function is just one small attachment that you add to the blender; no one can complain about that taking up space and at just £24.99, it’s far more cost effective than buying four different gadgets!
