Creating A Cosy Home – Winter Decorating Ideas

Now that we are well and truly in the throes of winter, you may be looking for ways that you are able to update your home decor to create a more comfortable and cosy environment. After all, this is a depressing time of year and you want your home to be a sanctuary which you can come back to that allows you to escape the outside world. So, in this blog post, we will give you a few ideas about how you can update your home to create the kind of warm and welcoming environment that you are looking for.

Snow Day 2018

Change Your Curtains

If you still have some flimsy blinds or thin curtains as your window dressing, now is the time to give these a rethink. While these may have been perfect for the summer months when you wanted plenty of light to flow in through the windows, it is a totally different story now that winter has reared its ugly head. So, you could look into investing in some big drapes or else look into getting some custom curtains . You may be surprised what a difference it makes by updating your home decor in such as seemingly simple way. When the weather starts to get better again, just swap them back over!

Update Your Furnishings

While you may not want to change your furniture entirely, you can make a few additions which are certainly going to improve things in terms of making your home a cosier environment. All you need to do is add a few soft furnishings such as pillows, cushions, blankets, and throw rugs. All of these things are perfect when all you want to do is cuddle up on your couch for some evening or weekend movie marathons. The same goes for your bed. If you have a big, thick winter duvet, now is certainly the time to dig it out.

Add Some Greenery

Just because it is not all that green and colourful outside doesn’t mean that it has to be the same way inside as well! Now is the perfect time to introduce some house plants and flowers into your indoor environment as these will have a big impact when it comes to boosting your mood and getting you through to the warmer months ahead. Why not try a big feature plant in the corner? Or a succulent or two on the side? If you’re worried about keeping things alive, take a look into the world of faux foliage – one of my favourite things these days!

Change the Lighting

Since the evenings are drawing in, you are going to need to use your lights more and more over the coming weeks. Rather than just having one big overhead lighting source, you could instead opt to have some other ones like lamps and similar fixtures. You could also look into installing a dimmer switch which will give you maximum control over your lighting situations. Ultimately, a room can take on an entirely new edge when you simply change the lighting allowing you to make it cosy and intimate in the evening or light and bright for when the kids are awake!
