It’s the 30th of November and you’ve decided to do Elf on the Shelf – hurrah! But how to welcome and introduce your elf? Introducing an elf to young children can be a little difficult explaining the concept. How do you get them not to play with the elf? Or to understand the concept of their elf keeping an eye on their behaviour without them feeling scared? To help, we created this welcome letter to help you welcome your elf on December 1st. Simply scroll down to the bottom, download and hit print! You can fill in your child’s name at the top and their elf’s name.
What Is Elf On The Shelf?
Elf of the Shelf is an activity that takes place from December 1st until Christmas Eve. The elf ‘arrives’ on December 1st and leaves on December 24th to go back to Santa. During their stay you might find that they get up to different magical things in the night – the kids love it! It can be naughty, cheeky, fun, educational or just promoting kindness… it’s entirely up to you!
If I Start It, Am I Stuck With My Elf For Years?
No! Whilst you might think your children will come to expect it, you can always let them know that Father Christmas doesn’t have enough elves to go round every child so they might not appear every year. But we think you’ll all come to love your elf… even if you don’t necessarily feel that way every night when you set them up!
Does My Elf Have To Be Naughty?
No! Lots of people post things with their elves getting up to mayhem but they don’t have to. There are lots of different things that your elf can get up to – they can magically turn eggs into chocolate eggs, bring activity ideas, play with dolls/dinosaurs/cars. We really love Five Minute Mum’s idea of taking jokes or words and letting the elf bring different words or letters each day for the kids to unscramble. You can keep them in one place or you can move them around the house to find each day!
Help Me With Elf Activities!
We’ll be sharing some of our favourite Elf on the Shelf activities shortly but in the meantime Pinterest is 100% your best friend – get searching!
How To Welcome Elf on the Shelf…
In our house, we decided that the Elf would bring advent calendars with them. We created and printed off this flyer, filled it in and taped it up next to our elf on the mantlepiece. Then we popped the advent calendars below – the excitement level was insane! If you’d like to download this, click here!
