Sixty one thousand, five hundred and twenty nine. That’s how many photos my phone has on it. Mad really, isn’t it? Sixty one thousand moments captured forever; days out, days in, birthdays, holidays and all the other bits in between. Now let me let you into a little secret, know how many of those photos we have up around our house? Fourteen. And nine of those are in the same frame.
It’ll come as no surprise that the vast majority of photos these days are taken on a smart phone, and for many of us, that’s where they tend to stay. They might pop up every now and then as a ‘memory’ but for most of them, they’re quickly lost in phone album history. But why do we do that to ourselves? I love the photos I have up around the hours (all fourteen of them!). Every time I look at them, I’m transported back to that exact moment in time – the things we said, the way we looked at each other – a little time portal back to a moment that I don’t ever want to forget, especially as my kids are growing far too quickly!
That’s why we’ve partnered with Asda Photo to share the beauty, and ease, of printing your photos out and making those memories last. That’s right, five fantastic reasons why you should print photos that’ll have you reaching for your phone and receiving them in the post before you know it. Ready, lets go…
1. It’s Easier Than You Think
If you’re anything like us then the main thing that puts you off printing out photos is the hassle. It’s so easy to snap a quick photo these days that sorting them out for printing feels like far too much effort. Well, let me tell you something… it’s actually WAY easier than you think (and a whole heap quicker as well). I decided to print off two different sorts of photos; one was a collection of images from a family wedding. Super easy because they were all together on a file on my computer. A quick trip onto Asda Photo and into their photo printing section and bam, uploaded in seconds.
The second set were ones of our recent adventures, such as our weekend away at Cofton Holidays. These were all phone photos, so I decided to have a flick through recent images, favouriting those that caught my eye. Then I used the website on my phone to upload images directly from my favourites folder on my iPhone and put them into my online album. With both these and my computer images uploaded, I could select the ones I wanted prints of, the size of print and type of finish and done. I managed to order sixty different prints that I wanted, from two different sources, in under ten minutes and then a couple of days later, they landed on my doormat… easy as that!
2. Physical Photos Last
Remember how we all thought that floppy discs were the best way to store data? And then CDs and DVDs? As someone who no longer has the technology in her household to get her wedding photos off of the disc that they were delivered on (I promise, I’m not as prehistoric as this makes me sound!), I’m constantly relieved that we made sure we had printed physical copies of our wedding photos. I know, without doubt, that I can go to my parent’s house and still find photos of my grandparents, or of trips we took as children… but I’ve no idea how I would find them if they were on old phones, computers or bits of outdated technology, or even in the cloud. I want my children, and my grandchildren, to be able to find photos of me, them and us, when they’re older and nothing beats a physical photo print for that!
3. Photo Prints Make The Best Gifts
Are you even a parent if you’ve not printed off a photo of your child and gifted it to family? I mean, it’s a go to gift that just keeps on delivering, right?! Whether it’s a picture of just your child, or your child and the gift-receiver, or even a pic of you (or the cat, the dog or just a meaningful view!), I’m not sure there’s a nicer gift to give someone. It’s personal, it’s thoughtful and it’s something that they can treasure – and it’s not going to break the bank either! These days there’s a huge variety of different ways to display your photos, from wall planners and cushions, to mugs and mouse mats, but for us, nothing beats the classic. A beautiful photo in a simple frame.
4. Photos Are An Easy Way To Decorate Your Home
I have loved renovating our home, but my favourite part is when you’ve done all the hard work and heavy lifting, and you get to the fun stuff. The finishing touches that make a house a home. Or, as my husband likes to call it, the faffy bits! Using artwork around your home can help you do just that, bring it all together. But artwork can be tricky – it’s often expensive and it can be hard to find exactly what you want, in the size you want it. Enter photos. Print them out smaller to put onto side tables, go for larger prints in bigger frames to prop on shelves for a more casual look, or group a number of them together in a multi-frame to fill a larger space. Not only do you get to choose the memories, you also get to choose the colours and style that fit your room, and the best bit… you can swap them out for a different print in future if you fancy a change. It’s affordable, personal and a beautiful way to bring parts of your home to life.
5. They’ll Make You Smile Every Time You See Them
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there’s nothing quite like a photograph to take you back to a moment that’s gone past. Memories are precious things, and our minds just don’t do them justice! But a photo does. There’s nothing quite like walking past a photo on the wall on a bad day to raise your spirits. Or sitting at a desk working, and glancing up to see those loved ones grinning back at you, to give you purpose. Or seeing a picture of one of your favourite adventures to get your mind ticking back into adventure mode. Whatever memories make you smile, make sure you treasure them. Print ’em out, display them and feel those feelings every single time you see them. It’s a kind of magic really!
