Living Arrows 2019: Week One

Living Arrows 2019: Week One

With New Year a now distant memory, it’s back into 2019 with a bang. Over the holidays I spent some time thinking about what my resolutions would be; which bits I loved on this little site of mine, what I wanted to keep and how I wanted to spend my time this year. I’m back to work in a couple of months and with two little ones to look after and a bigger role to go back to, I know that time is going to be tight so I want to spend it on things that make me happy! Back in 2017, exactly two years ago, I started taking part in the Living Arrows series with What The RedHead Said; a weekly blog post covering something that we’d done that week. I love being able to look back on the day to day moments that made me happy each week so after a year long hiatus, I’m bringing it back. If you like being a bit nosey and seeing the ins and outs of family life with a two year age gap then this is the place for you!

Him

This year was the first year that Christmas has really had an impact on this guy and with the excitement came a lot of confusion and tiredness. Everyday we’ve had to explain why Santa isn’t coming again for another year – it’s a tricky concept when you’re two. We’ve been working hard to wear him out, cut snacks out and get a bit more routine into things as he was starting to become a bit of a monster at times… With more structure things seem to be improving and both Dave and I are working hard to define boundaries, especially Dave as he’s by far the softer touch!

Recently he seems to be growing up by the week; he’s started walking through to our room in the mornings to say hi, he’s incredibly bossy (his favourite phrase at the moment is ‘You two…’ before telling Dave and I off) and he seems to have shot upward. My toddler is fast becoming a little boy. Not only that but he’s finally outgrown his red wellies. I’m almost sadder about that than I am about him growing up!

Her

Despite having a phone overflowing with photos of her grinning wildly, this photo is my favourite from the last week with those big blue eyes and her favourite ‘two finger in mouth’ pose. She’s incredibly quick to burst into a wide smile at people usually (everyone, anyone, anything… she’s not fussed) but she’s been a bit under the weather with a cold/teething combo. This one’s from our first day back to a ‘normal’ routine. With the toddler at his grandparent’s house and Dave back to work, it was a day of taking it slow and snuggling up whilst she coughed and spluttered the entire time. As much as I hate it when they’re ill, I have to admit to enjoying the extra cuddles. Even now, at seven months, she’s eager to get away and explore so any opportunity to hold her close and watch her drift off is one that I’ll happily soak up! Oh and she went on a swing this week for the first time… loved it!

Baby snuggles are the best! We have a huge full of bossy little minions and after no routine at Christmas it’s definitely time to get a bit tougher! I look forward to seeing you posts over the year #livingarrows

They really are, they grow out of them so quickly! It’s tough being tough on them isn’t it? I mean, they can be such monsters but one cute grin and I’m putty again!

Oh I am so, so happy to see you joining in again! Your photos are beautiful and I am so glad I’ll be getting to see them each week – and see your gorgeous pair grow too x

Thanks Donna, I’ve really missed taking part. I hadn’t realised how much until I started doing them again! x

Lovely photos of both of them! It is so sad when they grow out of certain bits of clothing isn’t it, we’ve just been through the children’s clothes again and passed a load of stuff on to friends but it’s hard to let go of certain pieces! x #LivingArrows

You know, I don’t think I can cope with it! It was bad enough the first time around but now the baby is growing out of some of the toddler’s old clothes and I’ve got to deal with all the emotions AGAIN!!!

Your little ones are so cute! I love that your toddler uses the phrase “you two” to start telling you off – they’re funny little things aren’t they? #LivingArrows

We’ve really noticed a huge amount of our own phrases coming back to haunt us – definitely time to start filtering what we say more!
