The Sunshine Blogger Awards are a chance for you to learn a bit more about me and me to learn a bit more about other bloggers out there. As a naturally nosy person, it’s literally my idea of bliss! So, in the spirit of keeping things moving, lets start with these ten questions from the lovely Nicola at Mummy to Dex…
If you could be stuck in a lift with one person, who would it be?
Mary Poppins? I feel like she’d have enough stuff in her bag to keep us entertained for hours. Including snacks – they’re very important to me!
What’s your favourite blog to read at the moment?
That’s like choosing between my children (thankfully we only have one at the moment!)… so cruel! I love reading the work of people I’m friendly with like Mummy to Dex and I am Crabstix as it’s another window into their lives, more mainstream, I really do enjoy Hurrah for Gin still. I know she’s all big time these days but she makes me spit my drink out of my nose sometimes.
How did you and your significant other meet?
Dave (the husband) and I met at work. I was a buyer, he was working in the web team and we had to work together on a campaign. We started chatting, got along well and the rest is history!
What’s been the most challenging aspect of parenting for you so far?
My answer to this I think would change daily! I think it has to be the never-ending self doubt. I question my decisions about our life and my parenting style constantly – am I doing the right thing by going back to work? Should he still be breastfeeding as much? Do I play with him enough? I never imagined parenting would be quite so difficult, especially when I’m my own biggest critic.
If you could only eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Potatoes – at least that way you could cook them in a different way every day? Or crisps, I bloody love crisps!
Who are your three favourite bands?
I’m genuinely rubbish with music even though we’ve been to Glastonbury a couple of times now! Dave teases me constantly about my love of ‘Old Skool R&B’ and how I always make us listen to Kisstory at the weekend – ha! If I really had to choose at the moment then I’d have to go with Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and The XX for some chill time.
Are you going to give fast food to your child and why?
Not for a good little while. We live in the countryside so fast food is something we’d only really get on a day out and even then we’re far more likely to go to a proper restaurant rather than a fast food joint. I guess the most likely thing would be something like fish and chips – I think things like that are okay in moderation. I’m a big believer that you shouldn’t ban things as it instantly makes it more appealing. Would I give my son a bit of it now? No. Would I in, say, five years time? Perhaps.
What is your first memory?
One of the earliest memories I have is dancing to ‘Locomotion’ by Kylie Minogue. I must have been about three years old and can clearly remember doing the locomotion arms with a friend as we raced around the lounge! Classy!
What is the best country you have ever been to and why?
I’ve been so fortunate to travel extensively; both personally and with work. I’ve been able to see parts of rural China that I never would have gone to as a tourist, experience Japan with local people, even watch the harvests in India from factory windows. I love countries like that where the culture is just so incredibly different to our own, to the point that those trips feel like a dream! That said, if I had to move somewhere to live, it’d be Canada. I love it there!
How did you choose the name of your first born?
We didn’t find out our baby’s gender before he was born so we had to come up with both a boy and a girl’s name – talk about hard work! We had a girl’s name really quickly but lots of options for a boy. In the end, my husband chose it. He wanted an ‘interview name’ as he called it; something that could be shortened at home but would sound nice and formal if he went for a job. We narrowed our choice down to between two and eventually had a favourite due to the nickname that went with it. When he was born, we debated it a little bit more and stuck with our choice – now I couldn’t imagine calling him anything else!
Phew! Now it’s my turn for payback, my questions are;
- How did you come up with the name of your blog?
- What would you sing at karaoke if you HAD to pick one song?
- Who would play you in a movie of your life?
- What’s your proudest achievement (aside from being a parent!)?
- If you had to lose one sense (taste, touch, hearing, sight or smell) which would it be?
- What was your first job?
- What do you love most about your child?
- If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?
- Why do you blog?
- Who is your hero?
