Handy Home Uses For Herbs

Herbs are a wonderful type of plant. They are easy to grow, they smell amazing, and they will often give our food an amazing aroma or flavour when added during cooking. We all know that thyme and garlic can be great with steak and basil is amazing for pizza, but did you know there are also many more uses for herbs which you might not have ever thought of. Today we are going to take a look at some of the different ways you can use herbs in different ways for yourself and the home

Pest Control

None of us want to have a home invaded by pests; and luckily this is something which herbs can prevent. Before you call ABC Pest Control for your needs think about using a bouquet of mixed herbs outside your window to stop pests coming near the house. The strong smell will put them off and stop them starting to invade your home this year.

Clean Surfaces

Herbs are a great for making us feel healthier and more relaxed and this is why we will often use herbs to drink at the end of the day for a relaxing tipple. But they can also be used to clean surfaces and make them smell great. For a simple washing up spray you can use:

  • water
  • 1 capful castile soap
  • 15 to 20 drops of rosemary essential oil

You can spray this on pretty much any surface for a lovely clean kitchen this year without the fuss.

Protect Clothes

If you are looking to make your next batch of laundry smell amazing this week; there is a simple way to do this and you will be able to prevent moths from targeting your clothes once they are clean and dry. To clean your clothes in this way simply add a few drops of essential oil such as basil or sage into the washing machine and wash. Or place some in the dryer afterwards. You can also add drops of lavender oil to small bags of potpourri and place them in the wardrobe.

 A Breath Of Fresh Air

If you are looking for the ideal way to make the home smell fresh after it has been stale did a while, herbs are a natural way to go. You can add herb oils and lemon oil to a carrier oil and create your own reed diffuser at home. This is super simple and effective and it will make the home smell amazing all day long without using lots of chemicals or expensive air fresheners.

Make It Bright

If you want to make something yellow and bright such as your hair or some clothes, a great option would be to use Calendula, otherwise known as pot marigold. This natural dye will be super easy for you to use and it will make anything look bright and sunny in the home. If you want a change in the living room, why not try dip dyeing a cushion or two?
