Six Simple Home Projects to Do in 2021

Last year was a game-changing year indeed. The world as we knew it paused. Schools closed. Restaurants and cafes shut their doors. Businesses asked employees to remotely work. Concerts, graduations, birthday parties, and more were canceled or postponed. Because of the global pandemic, we all were forced to stay at home. When you work, learn, and even workout at home, your home is no longer only where you hang your hat. Spending 24/7 in your four walls gave you a new perspective on the importance of your home. And, by now, you are ready to make some changes in your home. Make your home truly your castle with these six simple home projects to do in 2021.

Revamp Your Home Office

Unless you have always worked from home, your home office was once a place that you burned the midnight oil upon occasion. Maybe you would check your email before commuting to work and after dinner. However, over the past year, most of us that could work from home did. Spending an eight hour day in that same home office was an eye-opener. Perhaps your desk and chair weren’t ergonomically designed like at your workplace. Having a comfortable place to do your work is essential. Also, the lighting is key. It not only helps your eyes but also your mood. If new office furniture and additional lamps don’t do the trick, you may decide to convert another space into your office for a change. Many families with school-aged children are revamping their kids’ learning from home spaces. By implementing bunk beds, ample lighting, and space-saving desks, it makes for a better learning environment.

Start a Garden Regardless of Space

You have heard countless times that you are what you eat. It doesn’t get any better than when you grow your produce yourself. It is time to convert a portion of your backyard, flowerbeds, windowsills, or balcony into a garden. The easiest way to start your gardening is with herbs. Basil, mint, rosemary, and other herbs grow quickly. Plus, they don’t take up much space. Another way to ease your way into gardening regardless of space or talents is to purchase a tower garden. They can be placed either indoors or outdoors. If you are ready and able to take a portion of your yard for a garden, you will need some tools. A great starter gardening kit includes a hoe, shovel, gloves, and watering can. For larger gardens, you may want to consider a gas or electric tiller. Depending on your location and desired produce, you may need to plant your seeds in-season. Some of the easiest vegetables to grow are lettuce, green beans, peas, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, kale, swiss chard, beets, and summer squash. Be prepared for more cooking with the fruits of your labor. But, you and your family will reap the yummy benefits. Perhaps you may cook family favorites, but also experiment with new, exciting recipes.

Get Screens and Sliding Glass Doors for Natural Light and Airflow

Having natural light and airflow in your home is healthy for you and your family. Natural light improves your mood as well. We all get a bit lethargic and lazy on cloudy rainy days. To enhance your natural light and airflow, an easy option is to upgrade your screens and sliding glass doors. However, not all doors and screens are created equal. You want to make sure that they are secure to not let in pests nor burglars. For the best in security doors, screens, and windows, check out Clearview.

Redesign a Room with Peel and Stick Wallpaper

This home interior design trick is great for any room. By adding accents to your existing kitchen, living, guest room, master bedroom, or your kids’ room, you can give it more life. Perhaps you want a motivation quote or song lyric above your TV in the living room. Maybe your kids want a sports team’s logo or a favourite cartoon character on the wall. But, you can do more with peel and stick wallpaper. In fact, you can create borders with geometric shapes and more. What’s ideal about peel and stick wallpaper is that it isn’t permanent. If your kids and/or you, get tired of it. Just peel it off. It is a lot easier and cleaner than painting.

Make it Energy-Efficient

There are many ways to lessen your impact on the planet. You can carpool or use mass transit. You can recycle, repropose, or upcycle items such as bags, clothing, and more. And, the same goes for your home. There are many ways to make your home more energy-efficient. In fact, many of which increase your home’s value. The easiest way is to switch out your light bulbs to LED lighting. Additionally, you can choose to purchase energy-efficient appliances that reduce water usage. Especially if you are in a cooler climate, you may want to invest in double-paned windows as well as enhanced attic insulation. If you are in an area that is typically sunny, you may want to take the plunge and buy solar panels. Solar panels are a great long-term investment in your home’s value. Plus, they entice energy-conscious buyers.

Remodel Your Bathroom

It’s time for a new look to your bathroom. You can quickly remodel your bathroom by changing the vanity, mirror, and color. However, to truly modernise your bathroom, you may want to think about the tub and shower. 2021 trends in interior design show stand-up showers with zero clearance for entry are popular. Plus, it is easy for everyone in the family to get in and out of. For a remodel of your tub and shower, you will need to hire professionals. The best advice is to research local contractors. Always ask for proof of insurance as well as testimonials from previous clients.

You can transform your home into a castle in 2021 by doing one or all of the simple home projects above. Rome wasn’t built in a day nor will your castle. Remember any project can be done little by little. Take your time to do the research. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and hire the right professionals. Good luck!
